Berryfest 2017 pres. by ACU: Here’s what you need to know

Berryfest is back! For the 36th annual Berry Festival held in the historic downtown core of Abbotsford, British Columbia, the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association and presenting sponsor Aldergrove Credit Union have switched things up from the traditional 2-day event to a one day only festival running from 9 am to 9 pm on Saturday, July 8th, 2017.

The Ferris Wheel is Back

You heard it here first. We’ve partnered with Shooting Star Amusements to bring back the ferris wheel! The cost to you? Just like the good ol’ days, the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association has subsidized the price of the rides to just a toonie per ride. The same goes for the Berry-Go-Round, a Berryfest staple for years on end which is set to return also. A family of 5 can enjoy a full ride for 10 bucks while taking in a top down view of Historic Downtown Abbotsford and surrounding areas. Why wouldn’t you?

Food and Food Trucks Galore

The thing about Downtown Abbotsford is that there are literally hundreds of businesses to visit, peruse, and learn about. Some businesses in the area have been around for over 50 years and new ones continue to pop up due to the incredible development occurring in the area. Downtown Abbotsford restaurants are no exception to the trend and many will be in the festival grounds offering a special twist on their fares such as Duft and Co’s Brickhouse that will be slinging their street-style pizza.

Food trucks will also be spread out in the festival including local favourites The Bannock Wagon, Stolovaya Catering, Tubsters Donuts, Stix Ramen Bar (who will be moving into the old Essendene Vacuums location on the corner of Montrose and Essendene), Little Snowflake Factory, Lemon Heaven, Smiley’s Concessions, and the Steak and Cheese Grill.

The First Ever Berryfest Beer Garden hosted by Old Yale Brewing

The liquor board and the City of Abbotsford have allowed the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association to host their first-ever beer garden (right next to the stage)! That means beer garden goers will be able to take in the music, enjoy the food options inside the garden, and children’s activities will be present so you can bring your littles and keep them occupied and enthused while you take in tastes of the craft beer scene. The garden will be running from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm so you can get your beverages while the music and comedy headliners tear up the stage.

The Headliner Entertainment

We went a little crazy with the entertainment because we wanted to keep you, well, entertained, for the duration of the festival. At 5 pm, after nearly 2 hours of set up time required for this performance, The Fab Fourever, the most prolific Beatles Tribute Band in Canada, will hit the stage for a truly memorable performance. Shortly after their set, Sunee Dhaliwal, local Abbotsford comedian, host, and entertainer, will be on hand to deliver an intimate set to Abbotsford families, followed by popular country band Me and Mae, and finally, Big City Soul, a tried and true dance and funk band, will be closing out the festival at 9 pm.

Abbotsford Arts Council

The Abbotsford Arts Council is the leader in arts and entertainment in Abbotsford, B.C. We’re excited to partner with this organisation to bring you their take on a true Artisan Market, which will be located across from TraceyCakes and Spruce Collective from 9 am to 9pm on Saturday, July 8. Bring some cash! You’re going to purchase something from their vendors, they’re simply too talented to just walk past.

Conclusion

If you’ve been to the past Berryfest’s, be warned, this will not be like those of the past. We’re brimming with family-fun activities, vendors, non-profit organizations, food, entertainment, amusements, and so much more! The Abbotsford Downtown Business Association is keen to improve the face of Downtown Abbotsford, and it starts with the events we throw for the community. Opening ceremonies start at 10:50 am the Community Stage located across from the Fraser Valley Inn. We’ll see you bright and early on Saturday, July 8, 2017.
