As the Berry Fest returns to downtown Abbotsford this July, we’re thrilled to highlight our incredible Presenting Sponsor: Watty Insurances of the Co-operators. While they have supported a variety of farms, particularly in the dairy and poultry sectors, they are eager to deepen their connection to berry farming through the Berry Fest.

From Alberta to Abbotsford

Owner Sherry Watty has been in the insurance industry for over 30 years and took over the Ventura Cooperators office seven and a half years ago.

“Berry Fest was the first community event we attended when we moved to Abbotsford,” she recalls. “It brought me back to a small-town feeling, with everyone enjoying the day together.”

Why They Give Back 

For Sherry, giving back is not just a business strategy; it’s personal. Growing up with humble beginnings, community events played a significant role in her childhood. Now, she sees it as her turn to pay it forward. 

“Supporting events like Berry Fest helps highlight the incredible work farmers do,” she says. 

This commitment isn’t just talk. Each year, Watty Insurance Services allocates a portion of its annual budget to local charities and events. From the Butterfly Ball to the Crystal Gala, the 4-H Club, Run for Water, and local golf tournaments, their positive impact is felt throughout the community.

Values That Matter

What guides their giving? The philosophy is simple yet powerful: treat people with respect, show up for others, and support those who work hard behind the scenes. They believe in rebuilding, uplifting, and being a guiding hand for those in need.

“We enjoy working with our farmers and believe they do not receive the praise and recognition they deserve. Particularly in the Fraser Valley, they are the backbone of our community.”

Excitement for Berry Fest

While they are keeping a few surprises under wraps, the team at Watty Insurance is excited to make a big splash at this year’s Berry Fest. Expect some fun activities, friendly faces, and plenty of community cheer.

Their primary hope is that their involvement will help strengthen the relationships between their team and the farmers they serve, as well as between the community and those who keep our local food system thriving.
